A, E---Zhi Gan Cao (honey fried radix glycyrrhizae uralensis) 6g
Actions: harmonizes & releases Shaoyang stage disorders
Indications:
1. Alternating fever and chills, dry throat, bitter taste in mouth, dizziness, irritability, chest and hypochondriac fullness, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, wiry pulse.
2. Women have cold during period causing period stop.
3. Malaria, jaundice, and internal diseases with alternating fever and chill.
Remark: Use this formula by having one of the symptoms above. It is not necessary to have all of the symptoms above to use it.
蒿芩清胆汤 Hao Qin Qing Dan Tang
Ingredients:
Qing Hao (herba artemisiae annuae)…4.5-6g
Huang Qin (radix scutellariae)…4.5-6g
Zhu Ru (caulis bambusae in taeniis)…9g
Zhi Shi (fructus citri aurantii)…4.5g
Chen Pi (pericarpium citri reticulatae)…4.5g
Ban Xia (rhizome pinelliae ternatae)…4.5g
Fu Ling (sclerotium poiae cocos rubrae)…9g
Bi Yu San (jasper powder, includes Hua Shi, Gan Cao, Qing Dai)…9g
Actions: Clear Gallbladder Damp/Heat, harmonizes Stomach and resolve phlegm.
Indications: Mild chills alternating with pronounced fever, bitter taste in mouth, fullness in the chest and hypochondria, may vomit up bitter or sour fluids, thirst with no desire to drink, red tongue with a thick greasy yellow coating, wiry slippery pulse.
2. Regulate and harmonize liver and spleen
四逆散 Si Ni San
C---Chai Hu (radix bupleuri) 9g

A---Zhi Shi (fructus immaturus citri aurantii) 9g
A, E---Zhi Gan Cao (honey fried radix glycyrrhizae uralensis) 9g
Actions: Vents pathogenic factors, soothe liver Qi, regulate spleen, (cold extremities/warm interior)
Indications:
1. For Yang/hot type collapse which is due to heat has entered the interior stopped the spreading of the Yang Qi to the extremities manifested as cold fingers and toes (but the body is warm), chest and abdominal fullness; wiry pulse.
2. Liver Qi stagnation overacting Spleen manifested as hypochondriac fullness, abdominal pain and/or diarrhea, wiry pulse.
逍遥散 Xiao Yao San

Actions: Soothe Liver Qi, strengthen Spleen, nourish blood
Indications: Liver Qi stagnation with spleen Qi and Blood deficiency causing hypochondriac pain, headache, vertigo, PMS, painful breasts, bitter taste in mouth, dry mouth and throat, poor appetite, fatigue, bloating, T- pale, P- wiry thin and weak.

Indications: Heat in both the interior and exterior from Wind/Heat invasion with internal Heat already present, or from Wind/Heat that invades both interior and exterior at the same time. Strong fever and chills, headache, dizziness, red sore eyes, trouble swallowing, nasal congestion with thick sticky yellow phlegm. Lung and Stomach Heat causes dry mouth with bitter taste, distention of the chest and abdomen, constipation, dark scanty urination, T- greasy yellow coat, P- full rapid, or wiry slippery.
2. 葛根黄芩黄连汤 Ge Gen Huang Qin Huang Lian Tang
Ingredients:
Ge Gen (radix puerariae)…15-24g
Huang Qin (radix scutellariae)…9g
Huang Lian (rhizome coptidis)…6g
Zhi Gan Cao (honey fried radix glycyrrhizae uralensis)…6g
Actions: release the exterior and clear heat
Indications: Fever and chills, smelly diarrhea with a burning anus. T- greasy yellow coat, P- rapid, or slippery.
