1. Move Qi
1. 越鞠丸 Yue Ju Wan
From Dan xi xin fa
Ingredients:
Cang Zhu (rhizoma atractylodis)
Chuan Xiong (radix ligustici chuanxiong)
Xiang Fu (rhizoma cyperi rotundi)
Zhi Zi (fructus gardeniae jasminoidis)
Shen Qu (massa fermentata)
Equal amounts of each, powder.
Actions: Move Qi, release stagnations
Indications: stifling sensation of the chest and the hypochondria, abdominial distension and pain, belching, vomiting, acid regurgitation, reduced appetite, poor digestion.
2. 柴胡疏肝散 Chai Hu Shu Gan San
Ingredients:
Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri) 6g
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Albae) 5g
Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong)5g
Xiang Fu (Rhizoma Cyperi)5g
Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) 6g
Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae)3g
Actions: soothe liver, resolve depression, move Qi and stop pain
Indications: chest, hypochondriac distension and pain, wiry pulse.
3. 半夏厚朴汤Ban Xia Hou Po Tang
Ingredients:
Ban Xia (rhizoma pinelliae ternatae)…9-12g
Hou Po (cortex magnoliae officinalis)…9g
Fu Ling (sclerotium poiae cocos)…12g
Sheng Jiang (rhizoma zingiberis officinalis recins)…15g
Zi Su Ye (folium perillae frutescentis)…6g
Actions: moves Liver Qi, eliminates clumps, push rebel Qi down, transform Phlegm
Indications: plum-pit syndrome, chest and hypochondriac distension, moist or greasy tongue coat, wiry slow or wiry slippery pulse.
4. 天台乌药散Tian Tai Wu Yao San
From Yi xue fa ming
Ingredients:
Wu Yao (radix linderae strychnifoliae)…15g
Mu Xiang (radix aucklandiae lappae)…15g
Xiao Hui Xiang (dry fried fructus foeniculi vulgaris)…15g
Qing Pi (pericarpium citri reticulatae virde)…15g
Gao Liang Jiang (rhizoma alpiniae officinari)…15g
Bing Lang (semen arecae catechu)…12-15g
Jin Ling Zi (fructus meliae toosendan)…12-15g
Ba Dou (semen croton tiglii)…15g
*Special preparation is needed for Ba Dou.
Actions: soothe Liver Qi, disperse cold, relieves pain,
Indications: hernia, low abdominal pain radiating to the testicles, pale tongue with white coat. deep and slow or wiry pulse.
5. 暖肝煎 Nuan Gan Jian
(Warm the Liver Decoction) 《景岳全书》
Ingredients:
Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) - 6 -9g. -invigorates and tonify liver blood
Gou Qi Zi (Fructus Lycii) - 9g. -tonify liver and kidney Qi and blood
Xiao Hui Xiang (Fructus Foeniculi Vulgaris) - 6g. -warms kidney, expels cold
Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamorni Cassiae) - 3 -6g. -warm and tonify kidney and liver
Wu Yao (Radix Linderae Strychnifoliae) - 6g. -promote Qi circulation, alleviate pain in the lower abdomen
Chen Xiang (Lignum Aquilariae) - 3g. -promote Qi circulation, alleviate pain in the lower abdomen
Fu Ling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) 6g. -tonify spleen, drain dampness
Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Officinalis Recens) 3-5g. -eliminates cold, harmonizes stomach
Actions: Tonify liver and kidneys, promot Qi circulation and alleviate pain
Indications: Hernia, lower abdominal pain, pain is sharp in quality, localized pain aggravated by cold, swelling of the scrotum, distended pain of the scrotum. Tongue - pale Pulse - submerged, tight.

苏子降气汤 Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang

Ban Xia (rhizoma pinelliae ternatae)…10g

Qian Hu (radix peucedani)…4g
Rou Gui (cortex cinnamomi cassiae)…6g
Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) 10g
Actions: redirects rebel Qi, stops coughing and wheezing, warms kidney and transforms Phlegm-Cold
Indications: coughing and wheezing with copious white sputum, chest distension, shortness of breath (difficult inhalation, easy exhalation), edema, fatigue. slippery or greasy white tongue coating, low back/knee pain or weakness.
定喘汤 Ding Chuan Tang
Ingredients:
Yin Xing (semen ginkgo bilobae)…9g
Ma Huang (herba ephedrae)…9g
Su Zi (fructus perillae frutescentis)…6g
Kuan Dong Hua (flos tussilaginis farfarae)…9g
Xing Ren (semen pruni armeniacae)…4.5g
Sang Bai Pi (cortex mori albae radicis)…9g
Huang Qin (radix scutellariae)…4.5g
Ban Xia (rhizoma pinelliae ternatae)…9g
Gan Cao (radix glycyrrhizae uralensis)…3g
Actions: expand Lung & push down rebel Lung Qi, arrest wheezing, clear Heat, transform Phlegm
Indications: coughing and wheezing with copious thick yellow sputum, laboured breathing, greasy yellow tongue coating, slippery rapid pulse, may also show fever and chills.
旋覆代赭汤 Xuan Fu Dai Zhe Tang
From Shang han lun
Ingredients:
Xuan Fu Hua (flos inulae)…9g
Dai Zhe Shi (haematitum)…15g
Ban Xia (rhizoma pinelliae ternatae)…9g
Sheng Jiang (rhizoma zingiberis officinalis recens)…6g
Ren Shen (radix ginseng)…6g
Zhi Gan Cao (honey fried radix glycyrrhizae uralensis)…3g
Da Zao (fructus zizyphi)…4 pieces
Actions: redirect rebelious Qi downward, resolve Phlegm, strengthen Stomach Qi, harmonize Stomach
Indications: non-stop belching, hiccup, acid regurgitation, nausea or vomiting, hard epigastric distension, white slippery tongue coat, wiry weak pulse.
丁香柿蒂汤 Ding Xiang Shi Di Tang
Ingredients:
Ding Xiang (flos caryophylli)…6g
Shi Di (calyx diospyros kaki)…9g
Ren Shen (radix ginseng)…6g
Sheng Jiang (rhizoma zingiberis officinalis recens)…9g
Actions: strengthen Stomach Qi, warm mid Jiao, redirect rebel Qi, stop hiccup
Indications: hiccup, belching, vomiting, chest distension, pale tongue with white coat, deep slow pulse.
橘皮竹茹汤 Ju Pi Zhu Ru Tang
Jin gui yao lue
Ingredients:
Chen Pi (pericarpium citri reticulatae) 12g
Zhu Ru (caulis bamusae in taeniis) 12g
Ren Shen (radix ginseng) 3g
Sheng Jiang (rhizoma zingiberis officinalis recens) 9g
Gan Cao (radix glycyrrhizae uralensis) 6g
Da Zao (fructus zizyphi jujubae) 5 pieces
Actions: redirects rebel Qi, stops hiccup, strengthens Stomach Qi, clears Heat
Indications: hiccup, nausea, dry heaves, tender red tongue, weak rapid pulse.
